TLAM NJHS Requirements: Our chapter strives to give practical meaning to the Society’s standards of scholarship, service, leadership, character, and citizenship. These five ideals are considered as the basis for selection. No student is inducted simply because of a high academic average. The National Junior Honor Society strives to recognize the total student – one who excels in all of these areas. The standards used for selection are:
Scholarship: at least 3.5 cumulative GPA (to be determined after final report cards for the year) * Service: minimum of 15 community service hours completed during the summer leading up to NJHS induction and 35 more service hours completed during the school year (for a total of 50 service hours required for ALL members). Character: absolutely no referrals on record Citizenship and Leadership: based on core teacher recommendations
Each May, potential student candidates will be given invitation letters to join the upcoming year's NJHS.
*If a student earns two C's or one D on a report card, they will be placed on probation for the next quarter. If they pull the grades up to having one or no C's and no D, they will stay in NJHS. If the grades remain with 2 or more C's, or a D at the end of the probation quarter, the student will be dismissed from the NJHS group. NO F's are permitted. If a student earns an F as a report card grade, they will be dismissed from NJHS.
